Earth Day is celebrated annually on April 22. The first Earth Day took place in 1970, sparked by growing concern for pollution, biodiversity loss, and the wellbeing of future generations. It became a global movement calling attention to environmental protection and climate action.
This date was chosen to mobilize students, educators, and communities in America before it evolved into a worldwide movement. Over the decades, it grew into a planetary call for justice, peace, and sustainability.
At Our Earthian Community Group (OECG), we believe that Earth Day is a promise to protect, perceive, and preserve the creation. Something momentous shouldn't have to happen to care. You just need a desire for change, what you are good at, and your chosen voice. We honor Earth Day by living Earth-heartedly—every day.
The Earth Charter & OECG
Moral Ethics, Creative Education, and Collective Alignment
I. Our Alignment
OECG is a book community for works that explore planetary ethics, ecological imagination, and creative education through collaborative publications.
We stand in support of The Earth Charter—a global ethical framework for a just, sustainable, and peaceful world. We uphold its values by publishing community-rooted works that protect life, nature, and future generations.
Though not formal members, we align with its principles as a compass to care more meaningfully about what is happening in the world, but with peace. The Earth Charter affirms the values that guide our collective work: compassionate interdependence, solidarity in diversity, and deep responsibility for all life.
II. Why It Matters to Us
OECG (View Community) exists at the intersection of story, learning, and cultural co-creation. Through contributions from artists, educators, and visionaries across generations, we explore:
- What it means to live wisely, appreciatively, and creatively on Earth
- How collective publishing can honor ecological values
- Why cultural storytelling can deepen planetary care
Our support for The Earth Charter is an ethical commitment to grow a creative ecology of justice, peace, and education. This commitment also extends to how we observe Earth Day—not just as a date, but as a lifelong practice of reimagining how we live with the Earth and each other.
III. What We’re Working On
As part of this alignment, OECG has built a series of themed editions via our Literary Journals:
- Featured creative works on nature, wildlife, and climate change
- Included poetry, artwork, essays, and seeds for thoughtful reflection
- Created space for global, intergenerational, and cultural voices
These publications will be available in both print and digital forms, serving as legacy books that honor the protection of natural resources, historical preservation, ecological memory, and the exploration of solutions that avoid war to make life better for all of humanity.
